There are those who believe Dr. Voegtlin to be a Hyles underling or clone. I herein present a short bio that can be updated by those who know more, but will present many reasons why that is not so, while also offering a clearer picture of Dr. Voegtlin.
Roger Voegtlin grew up in Chicago, Illinois and was saved at the age of five. He first saw his wife when she was 8 and had to be helped onto a soapbox behind the pulpit for a song she was performing.
He attended high school at Vocational High School in Chicago (incidentally, also D*i*c*k Butkus' alma mater) before graduating and joining the Navy. After his time in the Navy, he went to Iowa State University where he studied and received a degree in architectural studies.
His wife attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, IL. At about this time, Dr. Voegtlin was attending the Oak Forest Baptist Temple under Dr. Bill Schroeder. Dr. Schroeder was often cited as Dr. Voegtlin's spiritual father and it was under him that he surrendered to preach. Dr. Voegtlin then began attending college at Bob Jones University. This is also Dr. Bill Schroeder's alma mater.
Dr. Schroeder is no longer at Oak Forest Baptist Temple, but now pastors at New Life Baptist in Aurora, IL. A short bio on him and his life can be viewed on the church's website here:

He recently celebrated (2003) 50 years in the ministry.
Before planting Fairhaven Church, Dr. Voegtlin was an assistant pastor with Emmanuel Baptist Church.
October 28, 1970 - Rev. Roger Voegtlin, former assistant pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church, is a pastor of the newly-formed Fairhaven Church. Services are held at the Sandpiper Restaurant. (from the NW Indiana Times Newspaper 'A Look Back' Section)
After graduating from college(BJU), he planted Fairhaven Independent Baptist Church with one family on October 27, 1970.
After being awarded as Indiana's Fastest Growing Sunday School and receiving the Defense of the Faith award for his trials and battles combating Indiana's welfare department and parent's rights, Bob Jones University expressed interest in Fairhaven becoming a satellite. At the time, Fairhaven already had a successful Wednesday night Bible Institute that offered certificates for study. Dr. Voegtlin stood his ground in order to maintain Fairhaven's independence and the Institute took further development steps becoming Fairhaven Baptist College. It opened in 1977 offering degrees in Secretarial, Pastoral Theology, Missions, and Christian Education for grade school and high school.
