Freedom From Abuse Network
One day, nearly a year ago, I was talking to my sister about the child abuse in the IFB and how it's promoted by the leaders within the sect.  I finally decided to take the time to go to www.sermonaudio and look up any sermons about child discipline and parenting.  Within the first few hours of listening to the sermons I was in tears.  I was amazed at how quick and easy it was to find pastors promoting this junk. I couldn't believe that they felt so bold in their positions about this that they actually had the audacity to post it on the internet.  It is psychologically twisted, because they obviously have no idea or concern for what the laws are and are blatantly and boldly telling people to disregard them altogether.  A few of the pastors sound like they are in hog-heaven preaching about beating and abusing their children.  It's just like I remember things from my own childhood and it makes me extremely sick.

I watched a recent clip from a representative at the National Child Abuse Hotline who articulated how abuse advocates defined child abuse in 2008. I will post more information about this in the future.  But in most states corporal punishment of children is still allowed, but laws are continuing to get stiffer as the years go on.  There is a lot of debate about whether or not corporal punishment should be allowed at any level, but I have no doubt the IFB sermons I am posting on this site, if acted out on a child, would be a crime under our current laws.

I remember the story of my abuser's son being beaten by my abuser with over 80 hits with the wooden dowel for the offense of lying when he was eight years old. This story was talked about often because of my abuser's son "funny" response to the abuser at that point in the "spanking" experience.  I look back now and think about how my abuser's son could have been killed under that type of abuse.  Internal bleeding, a broken tailbone, or welts that led to a blood clot or any number of things could have resulted in his death.

I cannot recall one time in over 20 years of being in the IFB and after having listened to hundreds or maybe even thousands of family focused sermons where even one leader talked about state laws and then defined abuse based on the law in the country.  But I could list a dozen fundamental leaders that I talked to who advocated "spanking" your child until the child's "will was broken."  I heard a lot of their own assessments of what they thought the Bible meant by proper discipline of a child, but there was never any acknowledgement that our country has rules and regulations, on purpose, that we are demanded to follow in this regard.

It sickens me to think about this now that I have left the IFB, as I believe the promotion of "breaking the will" of a child was the motivation behind this abuse.  Hopefully by bringing this very specific information to light, the IFB will ultimately be forced to stop promoting child abuse in any form.

By educating people we save children's lives.
